How to choose a coworking space in Mumbai

Five questions to ask before you sign — covering pricing, GST, network reliability, parking and what really matters when you bring a client over.

Coworking has come a long way in Mumbai. Twenty different shapes of space across every suburb, every floor plan, every coffee blend. Here's how to cut through the noise.

1. What is actually included in the rent?

Some spaces quote a low base price and then bill electricity, internet, meeting rooms and 'community fee' separately. Ask for a single, GST-inclusive monthly number for the way you plan to use the space.

2. Will the Wi-Fi survive a Monday morning?

Ask about ISP redundancy, average speeds in the work hall (not the brochure), and what happens during a power cut. If the answer is vague, it's not redundant.

3. How are meeting rooms billed and booked?

Look for: monthly credits included with each membership, a simple WhatsApp or app-based booking flow, and rates for non-members in case you ever need an overflow room.

4. What's the deal with GST and invoicing?

If you'll claim input tax credit, the space must issue compliant GST invoices in your business name. Confirm that they'll capture your GSTIN at onboarding.

5. Can you bring a client and feel good about it?

Walk in unannounced for the tour. Look at the reception, the bathrooms, and the cabin doors. Listen to the noise level. If you'd hesitate to bring a paying client, that's your answer.
